Innovation
Commercialization
One of the primary goals of the CSN is to ensure that the economic benefits of the Network's research, partnerships and training programs are maximized. By working closely with the Network partners and through collaborations with the private sector, we will facilitate the commercialization of research outcomes and the establishment of new Canadian companies.
The CSN has helped to establish three new Canadian technology companies. NoNO Inc. and Phoenix Biopharm Inc. are developing treatments for acute stroke, and Stem Cell Therapeutics is applying stem cell technology to post-stroke brain repair.
The CSN's governance and management structure are well suited to promote the establishment and support of commercial partnerships and opportunities. The Director of Partnerships will work with Network members, the Business Development Advisory Committee, partners and outside agencies to help ensure the design of effective strategies for the commercialization of innovative products and services.
Funding support is available from the CSN to help protect intellectual property, develop commercial technology and help establish new companies. These funds, in the form of commercialization grants and investments, are accessible through the Business Development Advisory Committee of the CSN.
A key business objective is to leverage the annual funding from government sources by establishing partnerships with non-profit organizations and attracting private sector funding of the Network's research program. The CSN's ability to support early proof-of-principle stage activities and to establish large-scale coordinated programs in stroke research has significant potential to attract partners and commercial investment.
